Apogee Instruments Spectroradiometers are designed with ease-of-use and portability in mind. The spectroradiometer is calibrated to measure quantitative or absolute intensity at different wavelengths of the electromagnetic spectrum, versus a spectrometer that only measures relative intensity. Radiation spectra and reflected and transmitted spectra is measured in relative, energy (Watts)–or quantity units (moles).

Spectroradiometers are used to take measurements of radiation at specific wavelengths, and are used to infer plant health, determine the transmissivity of a material, monitor atmospheric energy flux, optimize electric lighting for plant growth, and many other purposes. The units are designed for the measurement of solar irradiance, reflectance, transmittance, absorbance, and emittance.
