Test Method: For determination of acidic constituents in petroleum products, lubricants and transformer insulating oils soluble or nearly soluble in mixtures of toluene and propan-2-ol. It is applicable for the determination of acids whose dissociation constants in water are larger than 10-9. The test may be used to indicate relative changes that occur in oil during use under oxidizing conditions regardless of the color or other properties of the resulting oil.

The Automatic TAN Potentiometric Titrator has been designed to offer maximum specifications and features whilst being priced at a very competitive level. Standard operation of the titrator begins with the calibration of the electrodes with an aqueous pH 11 buffer. If the electrodes are in poor the condition, the titrator is capable of detecting this and automatically fails the calibration. Upon successful calibration, the titrator determines the blank value for the titration solvent and automatically stores it in all internal titration programs. The instrument is now ready to perform the TAN analysis. Simply select the suitable titration program in accordance with the expected TAN value of the sample and start the titration. The results are expressed in mg KOH/g. They are stored in the data logger, displayed on the TAN titrator screen, and can also be sent to a printer or PC.
