The Semi-Circular Bend (SCB) Test Fixture is used with Marshall Load Frames to determine fracture energy and toughness of asphalt mixtures with a maximum aggregate size of 19mm. Semicircular asphalt specimens are used from cut Superpave Gyratory compacted cylinders or field cores with 150mm diameter.

The Fixture features a 0.5in (12.7mm) thick steel base plate, two L-shaped roller support steel blocks, two steel rollers, a loading ball, and a U-shaped frame. It is mounted in a Marshall Load Frame for loading.

The specimen is positioned on the two rollers and placed along its vertical diameter. Load and displacement can then be measured. The initial roller position is maintained by soft springs and backstops, which establish the test span dimension.
