What are the properties of images formed by a concave mirror? Investigate the characteristics of images formed by a concave mirror for g > 2f, g = 2f, 2f > g > f and g < f.
Principle
This experiment is very demanding. It does not place any great demands on the measuring accuracy of the students. But, judging from experience, students frequently have difficulties with recording the results for all the individual cases for image distance and properties of the image as a function of object and focal lengths, the occurring inequalities, and the great number of technical terms.
A possible methodological improvement is to have the students perform this experiment in teams: they are divided into 4 groups; each group completes one of the cases given on the Task page. Subsequently the results are exchanged, and Table 1 is completed coperatively. In this way each group can perform their special task meticulously and in their own time.
