Frequently asked questions

What types of industrial instrumentation does Hoskin Scientific carry?

Hoskin Scientific supplies data loggers, flow meters (clamp-on ultrasonic, electromagnetic, vortex, mass), pressure and temperature transducers, level sensors, vibration monitors, hydrogen and gas mass flow meters and controllers, RTDs and thermocouples, signal conditioners, and SCADA-ready telemetry hardware. Major lines include Onset HOBO, Bronkhorst, Cannon, Micronics, OPTEK, and TE Connectivity.

How do I choose the right flow meter, data logger, or sensor for my application?

Contact a Hoskin Scientific application specialist with a description of your fluid or signal, range, accuracy requirement, environmental conditions, and integration target (data logger, SCADA, PLC). Our division specialists work with you to specify the right sensor technology — for example, clamp-on ultrasonic versus electromagnetic flow for utility water, or thermal-mass versus Coriolis for gas — before you commit to a purchase.

Do you offer wireless data loggers and battery-powered remote monitoring?

Yes. We stock the Onset HOBO MX wireless logger line, MicroSpec dataloggers, cellular telemetry kits, and battery-powered weather and water-level loggers for unattended field deployments. We also supply complete remote-monitoring packages with cellular or radio uplink for long-term unattended use.

Are your instruments compatible with SCADA, PLC, and industrial control systems?

Most current Hoskin Scientific instrumentation supports standard industrial protocols including 4-20 mA, Modbus RTU/TCP, HART, Profibus, and Ethernet/IP. We help specify the right output and signal conditioner so your sensor integrates cleanly with existing SCADA platforms, PLCs, and historian databases.

What is the typical lead time and calibration availability for instrumentation?

Stocked sensors and loggers ship in 1-3 business days from a Canadian warehouse. Built-to-order flow meters and custom-ranged transmitters are typically 4-10 weeks. NIST-traceable calibration is available through our four Canadian service centres on most common instruments, with standard turnaround of 7-10 business days.
